My email address is abowen17@rice.edu
Here are the guidelines..... Blurbs may be no longer than 250 words; a blank line counts as 8 words (if you go over your word limit; your blurb will be cut off after the first 250 words, so make each word count)! We will use Microsoft
Word to count the number of words in your blurb.

• Your blurb will not be edited by the Student Association or the
Thresher Staff before the issue goes to print!

Sincerely,

2. “Oil On Ice”

Narrated by Peter Coyote, is an award-winning documentary that connects the fate of Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska and the conflict over drilling for oil there to critical decisions America makes about energy policy and transportation choices. The film examines the battle over one of America's last great wild places, which is currently at the center of a national energy debate. Caught in the balance are the Gwich'in Indians and the migratory wildlife in this fragile ecosystem. Through stunning footage and in-depth interviews, this entertaining film links seemingly unrelated matters such as energy independence, global warming, Native American rights, wildlife and wild lands protection.
*Guest Speaker: * Following the film, Terrel Dixon of the University of Houston will lead a short discussion on issues related in the film.
*When: *Wednesday, March 12, 2008 @ 7pm
*Where: *Rice Media Center, Rice University
*Cost:* Free, however donations will be accepted at the door.

3. ENGL 320: Shakespeare on Film Course Offering

Hello!
Due to a technical problem, my class did not appear on the Registrar's list of possible courses for the summer 2008 session. The Registrar has addressed this problem, but please forward this message to your undergraduate students so that they know that English 320, a Distribution I course, is available for the general Summer session. The class will meet 9-11 Tuesdays and Thursdays, from June 2 until July 25. The section number is 001 and the CRN number for registration is 30296.

In the class we'll watch films such as Al Pacino's Merchant of Venice; the 1996 Midsummer Night's Dream (with Kevin Kline, Michelle Pfeiffer, Callista Flockhart, Stanley Tucci, etc.); Twelfth Night, with Ben Kingsley and Helena Bonham Carter; and several versions of Hamlet, possibly including Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Mel Gibson's Hamlet, and Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet (with Robin Williams, Billy Crystal, and Kate Winslet).
Thanks so much for your time and help!
Best,
Jill Delsigne
