1. Take Back the Night Interest Meeting 

Interested in helping organize this years Take Back the Night?

What is it?

Take Back the Night is a night of empowerment, to remember the survivors of sexual violence and to say that it must stop. The event exists to empower, to find support, and to break the silence. www.takebackthenight.org has more information.

2. Hero Contest

The Rice Women's Resource Center presents the Hero Contest in celebration of Women's History Month

Submission Deadline

Email entries (subject line 'Hero Contest Submission') to hildebrandt@rice.edu by Friday, March 21st at 5:00 PM.

Poetry and Short Non-Fiction Contest

Write a poem or short story relating to femininity, feminism, or womanhood, or a woman in your life who has inspired you. Entries will be judged on: Originality, creativity, and expressiveness Relevance to the topic

Submissions should be no longer than 50 lines for poetry, and 3 pages for stories.

General Rules

Submissions may come from women or men, undergraduate or graduate. There is no limit for the number of entries one person may submit. To view past winning submissions visit http://women.rice.edu/impactawards.cfm?doc_id=10270.

Recognition

Winners will be recognized at the RWRC Impact Awards ceremony on April 21st. The winning poems or stories will be published on the RWRC website (women.rice.edu). Depending on the number of entries and with the permission of the authors, all submissions will be compiled and published in a volume that will become part of the RWRC permanent library. Winners will be notified by April 3rd.

As of right now, 22 people at Hanszen have turned in the surveys that were placed in mailboxes on Monday. THANK YOU. You guys are awesome. Also, you have great odds! There are EIGHT prizes (6 for $100 and 2 for $200) for the

RAFFLE.

The rest of you Hanszenites…TAKE A LOOK AT THE ODDS, and turn in your surveys as soon as you can! The drawing will be after spring break, so do it in your free time this next week.

4. Register Relay for Life

Register for the Relay For Life of Houston-Texas Medical Center by MARCH 13!

How to register:

1. Go to www.events.cancer.org/rflhoustonmedicalcentertx to register as a       team captain/member.

2. If registering as a team captain, pay the REDUCED registration fee of $90 (split among your team members)

3. All team captains and members registered online by March 13 are guaranteed free event t-shirts!

4. Start fundraising for the American Cancer Society!

5. Make a difference in the fight against cancer!

Relay for Life will be taking place on Friday-Saturday, April 18-19 at the

Rice University Track/Soccer Stadium.

5. Primary Voting Information

Tuesday March 4th is the day of the 2008 Texas Primary.  If you are registered to vote in Harris County, and have not already taken advantage of early voting or voted by mail, you may vote tomorrow by appearing in person at your designated polling location between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and presenting either your valid voter ID card or Texas Driver's License.

 

Polling locations are based on the home address you have on file with the Harris County Voter Registrar:

Both the *Democratic* and *Republican* primaries will be at:
