1. Rice Interfath: Common Heritage: Abrahamic Understandings of the
Prophets

The Rice Interfaith Dialogue Association invites you to the first of our
Student Panel Series on "Common Heritage: Abrahamic Understandings of the
Prophets."

Dialog 1: "Adam Our Forefather" will be presented by David Sorge of Agape
Christian Ministries and M. Emre Coskun of the Rumi Club. David is a junior
at Martel College majoring in Linguistics and Asian Studies. Emre is a
graduate student in the Department of Economics.

Thursday, September 17
9pm at Sammy's Cafe in the RMC

Refreshments will be provided.

2. Rice HuMed Meeting

Rice HuMed (Humanitarian Medical Outreach) is having its first general meeting
Thursday, Sept. 17th, at 9:30 PM in HUMA 117. We'll be talking about our three summer outreach trips - to Bolivia, Ghana, and India - as well as some of the other volunteer projects we're taking on this year.

You do not have to be pre-med to attend! Anyone interested is welcome:)

And the best part: THERE WILL BE FOOD!

Nutritionist Brandi Powell will be answering questions on nutrition and giving advice on navigating the serveries(finding the healthy options, increasing variety, and getting creative with your food), eating late night and off campus, and dealing with your burgeoning beer belly...

4. FREE September CPR/AED Classes Offered by Rice EMS

Rice EMS will be offering two CPR classes this month, free to all Rice
faculty/students/staff and $25 for all others. If you would like to sign up, please email rems-cpr@rice.edu with your name, email, affiliation (staff/student/faculty/non Rice),and college/department. Please also specify if you have a preference for the class you'd like to attend (note Sept 27 class is currently full). Space is limited so sign up early!

September Classes:

Sunday, September 20 from 2pm-6pm in Razor Hall 123 (8 Spots remaining)
Sunday, September 27 from 9am-1pm in Razor Hall 123 (THIS CLASS IS ALREADY FULL -
however, we can put you on a waitlist)

Both of these courses will cover the American Heart Association's Heartsaver AED for
Adult and Child curriculum which is designed for lay rescuers and includes adult and
child rescue breathing, CPR, foreign body airway obstruction, as well as the use of an
AED and common barrier devices.

Perspectives and Popcorn Next Tuesday, Sept, 22nd, 8-9 at the Rice Women’s Resource Center

Every Tuesday from 8-9 p.m., the RWRC hosts an informal discussion group, called
Perspectives and Popcorn, on various topics pertaining to gender issues. All -- graduate
students, undergrads, profs, men, and women -- are welcome to come to RWRC office in
Kelley Lounge in the RMC for this week's P&P on Sexist Ads: Then and Now!

7. AP Calculus BC tutor needed

A senior at St. Agnes needs a calculus tutor to meet with her for one hour twice a week.

Required:
- Strong single variable calculus background
- Good communication skills
- Transportation to and from the meeting place (around the Bellaire-610 intersection)

Meeting times are flexible and can be decided between you and the girl.

Pay is $25/session.

8. Amnesty International's Banned Book Week

Amnesty International has deemed the week of September 27th through October 3rd Banned Books Week. Books of all genres and authors are banned in public libraries and schools. Rice Amnesty wants to generate more awareness on campus on this issue by having a Banned Books reading, and are requesting your help. We would like to extend an invitation to any student to read an excerpt from one of your favorite banned books on campus on Tuesday, September 29th between 7 and 8PM (refreshments will be provided). Please let me know if you are available on this date, and if you are willing to participate (and what book you would like to read from!). Thank you so much for your time!
