7. International Education Week
As a part of International Education Week, on Wednesday 11/19/08, the
University Police Department will present "Policing in America and at Rice".
This display will be set up in the Ray Courtyard of the Rice Memorial Center
from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM and will include some great activities, as well as
provide valuable information. Please take a look at the list of fun
activities that will be presented.
* You will have a chance to view a video highlighting the Citizens Police
Academy. Academy Class #5 is still open for registration and will start on
January 13, 2009. Registration can be found at
http://rupd.rice.edu/radform.cfm
* There will be a chance to get your all questions about policing in America
and at Rice answered. In addition, there will be lots of valuable personal
safety information available.
* And even more fun, you will have a chance to become the Crime Scene
Investigator, lifting and classifying fingerprints, examining a mock crime
scene and recording the evidence found there. The "super sleuth" who can
identify all pieces of evidence at the scene will receive their "CSI
Investigator" badge.
We hope to provide those who stop by a fun, informative time with us.
Looking forward to seeing you there,
Dianna Marshall

9. Rice Bike Project: Your Help Is Needed!
We are students currently enrolled in ENST 302: Environmental Issues: Rice Into the Future. One of the requirements of this course is to propose a project that will have a positive effect on the environment at Rice. Our group has proposed creating a bike share program on campus. Through this program, students would have access to a group of loaner bikes available at each of their colleges. The goal of this is to encourage the use of a more sustainable means of transportation, while participating in a fun and healthy activity. As part of this project, we would like to assess student interest of such a program through a quick and easy online survey. It's only ten questions long, and should not take more than five minutes to complete. We would really, really appreciate your participation! If you are interested in seeing such a program at Rice (and even if you're not), please let us know through this survey. If you have any questions, just shoot us an e-mail. Thank you!!
