1. Catalyst Submission
The Catalyst: Rice Undergraduate Science & Engineering Review is currently accepting submissions for our annual 2008-2009 issue! We are in our second year of publication and are eager to continue our role in fostering scientific interest and discussion at Rice. This journal is a great way to be heard throughout campus and in the greater scientific community. We distribute issues on the Rice campus as well as the Texas Medical Center, and collaborations are underway to publish articles on Connexions, a platform that will allow your work to be accessible on a global scale.

If you are interested in writing a research review article, the deadline for abstract submissions is Dec 4.
If you are interested in writing a popular science article, then please contact Lisa Sun (ls5@rice.edu ) with your topic. The deadline for popular science article submissions is January 9, 2009.

Please visit catalyst.rice.edu/submissions for more information on submissions, or contact catalystRUSER@gmail.com with any questions.

2. Seeking Crew for Wyrd Sisters!
Hopefully you've heard by now about our spring production, Wyrd Sisters. It's an awesome comedy, and it's got a quick schedule (done in a month). Anyway, we're looking to fill a few more positions in the play. We need an assistant stage manager, a props master, a producer, a sound designer, and a marketing director. We're looking for energetic, reliable people, with or without theater experience. Contact Catherine Bratic (ceb1@rice.edu) for more information about any of these roles. Thanks!

3. Holiday Gift Drive
can be a difficult time for many of the Houston Area Women's Center's (HAWC) clients because they are away from their homes and/or are living in the shelter. HAWC has a Holiday Store full of donations from their Holiday Wish List (attached). The Holiday Store gives HAWC's clients the opportunity to shop for gifts free of charge. This ensures that children at the shelter will have a gift waiting for them under the tree and that clients can give their loved ones new gifts without having to undergo the extra financial burden.

There will be a collection box outside of the Rice Women's Resource Center, which is in the Kelley Lounge in the RMC. Donations should be new, from the wish list attached (and below), and NOT wrapped. We'll be collecting donations until December 7th.

If you have any questions, please contact me at Nikka.T.Landau@rice.edu.

4. Talent needed for President's Study Break Sunday, Dec 7 9 - 10 pm
Hi talented Rice people,

I'm working on the entertainment for the President's study break on
December 7th. Each year, we present a "variety show" of all the creative
students and groups we have here at Rice.

I'd like to feature several acts during this show -- each group will do a tune or two. All I need is 5-10 minutes. Each group will perform in the Grand Hall of the student center. We will provide the sound system, you provide the instruments and individual amps/etc.

If you are interested, let me know ASAP and I'll get you onto the list. If you know of any other student bands or talented individuals who you think will be interested, would you please forward this invitation to them? Have them contact me at cthrock@rice.edu.

5. Library Books
To all undergraduate students:

Please remember to return your library materials before you leave campus
following final exams. You may use your library PIN to check for books
charged to your account, due dates, fines, recalls, and to renew books
online at:
http://alexandria.rice.edu/uhtbin/cgisirsi/X/FONDREN/X/1/1166/X/BLASTOFF
Note that there is a new link to send your library PIN to your Rice email
account if you have forgotten your PIN.

If you use the online renewal feature, please verify that the books listed
on your account are in your possession.

The last due date for the fall semester is 12/17/2008, so books
due before that date may be renewed online now. Fines for overdue
materials will accrue during the holidays, even on days the library is
closed. Beginning Friday, 12/12/2007, you may borrow books for a 28-day
loan period or renew books for another 28 days.

The online renewal feature will not work for the following:
- if you have fines over $5
- if you have any overdue materials or wait until after the due date
- if there is a hold or recall on any item (these will need to be
returned to the library)
- if any items have reached the renewal limit (10 renewals per item)
After renewing, check your account to verify the change in due dates.

If you have any questions about your library account, contact the
Circulation Department staff at 713-348-4021 or email circ@rice.edu.

Or talk to Eileen Ong, she works there.
